Learning Curve: Randy Beard (inset) will teach an Expo class sponsored by Pool & Spa News. He'll show how to construct perimeter-overflow projects, such as this one.
By Bob Dumas Industry members have said that they're always hungry for more and more information and instruction, so organizers of the 2005 International Pool & Spa Expo are throwing them an educating banquet the like of which they've never seen.
This year's Expo, slated for Oct. 30 to Nov. 3 at Orlando's Orange County Convention Center, will feature 102 seminars and classes. That tops last years's record-setting 73 sessions.
"In the years before, there would be between 55 and 65 classes, so this is a huge jump. Really huge," said Tracy Beaulieu, conference manager at Hanley Wood Inc., LLC, which owns the Expo and this magazine.
Beaulieu said she is constantly polling and interviewing industry members to ascertain exactly what type of information they're looking for. As a result, this year's 102 classes will feature 71 brand-new offerings.
Case in point: Following on the hells of last years' popular advanced pool building program is the advanced service program, composed of five seminars and sponsored by the APSP Service Council.
"They saw the success of the [builders'] program and wanted to do something like that too," Beaulieu said.
The new service track, which will count toward APSP's Certified Service Professional program, is for owners, managers and supervisors of service companies.
"It's a higher level of education," Beaulieu explained. "It's not for the service tech."
